As awards season comes to an end, music festival season begins. Thousands will converge on Austin, Texas over the next week for the first major festival of the year, South By Southwest. SXSW is divided into three different parts: Music, Film, and Interactive (Technology). This year’s festival and conference takes place March 7 – 16, with the Austin Convention Center as the headquarters and events, film screenings, and musical showcases all over downtown.
The music portion of last year’s event included a keynote speech by Dave Grohl, of Nirvana and Foo Fighters fame, and included musical showcases by Capital Cities and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, both groups going on to have breakout years. This year’s just-announced music keynote speaker is Lady Gaga. Along with the long list of already announced performers for 2014, which includes Soundgarden and Coldplay, there are always major surprise shows that are announced during SXSW week.
While there are hundreds of showcases during the night, many backed by major corporate sponsors, there are also hundreds of panels going on throughout the day. This year’s Music and Media Conference includes topics ranging from music royalties to the entrepreneurship culture of hip hop. John F. Bradley, founding partner of the firm, will be a panelist on the Friday, March 14th session “Music Business Deals: The New World Order,” taking place from 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM in Room 10C of the Austin Convention Center. The session will cover new, non-traditional approaches to deal making in today’s ever-changing music industry. We hope to see you there!
See you in Austin!
